Easy nutritious snack for the whole family with loads of fibre, protein and no refined sugar. Takes only 10 min make and taste.
The recipe and its ingredients had a different purpose at the outset. For the last week my youngest daughter has struggled to go to the toilet. She screams in agony every time. Heart breaking. She was put on antibiotics last week due to tonsillitis (to my disliking), however with very high fever for 4-5 days, screaming, not eating etc I gave in. So I have been giving her infant probiotic powder to stimulate the right bacteria flora, however she has been having problems getting it out. Literally.
So what is good for constipation?
Fiber, right bacteria (probiotics) and water. Other remedies is to increase magnesium intake as it is a muscle relaxant.
You might have heard that prunes are a good, old remedy for constipation… and the reason is the fiber content. So my mission today was to get as much fiber into my little Miss as possible. So I added prunes, flax meal (lots of insoluble and soluble fiber – which gives the stool its bulk). I added almonds and hemp-seeds (again lots of fiber). The raw cacaco gives magnesium amongst other benefits, spirulina is high in protein (and it is ‘complete’), essential fatty acids and have a relative high mineral content. Coconut oil was placed in the food processor for its fiber content, antibacterial properties (lauric acid) and for its high energy off-load.
- 12 pitted prunes
- 2 tbsp. hemp seeds (hulled)
- 1 tbsp. Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp. Cacao powder (raw)
- 1 tsp. Spirulina
- 1 tablespoon Maple syrup (optional)
- ⅓ cup Almonds
- 3 tbsp. Hemp Seeds (for decoration)
- Mix all ingredients in high speed food processor
- Roll into balls
- dip them in hemp seeds
- Fridge for 15 min.
So tasty. so yummy. I had to take them away from the girls in the end. Note, with a added fiber content to the diet, we also need to add more water.
